Tracks is a four-disc box set by Bruce Springsteen, released in 1998 containing 66 songs. This box set mostly consists of d songs recorded during the sessions for his many albums, but also includes a number of single B-sides, as well as demos and alternate versions of already-released material. The project began in early 1998, when Springsteen and his chief recording engineer, Toby Scott, began going through his massive collection of unreleased songs

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949), nicknamed "The Boss", is an American singer-songwriter who is a solo artist and is the leader of the E Street Band. Springsteen received critical acclaim for his early 1970s albums and attained worldwide fame upon the release of Born to Run in 1975. During a career that has spanned five decades, Springsteen has become known for his poetic and socially conscious lyrics and for his lengthy, energetic stage performances.

John Hammond was responsible for discovering Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Pete Seeger, and Bruce Springsteen, among others. An early inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, John Hammond was one of the most important figures in 20th century popular music. In his early teens he explored Harlem-listening to radio and live performances of black musicians. In 1927 he heard Bessie Smith sing at the Alhambra Theater. It was the peak of her career, and the performance would remain an influence on Hammond the rest of his life. The next year Hammond entered Yale University, where he studied the violin and later the viola.

Narrated by actor Ossie Davis, the one hour film features Hammond reminiscing about life and career, that spanned the period from the early 1930’s to his death in 1987, and talking with many of the artists he worked with.
Among those interviewed are musicians Count Basie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Milt Hinton and Buck Clayton, poet Allen Ginsberg, writer Nat Hentoff and Hammond’s sister Rachel Brec
