The Avalanches - Wildflower album download

The Avalanches return with their first new album in 16 years. And there are no shortcuts. Throw in the usual long-delayed-album mix of bad equipment, poor health, perfectionism, and clearance issues, and who knows, maybe we’re lucky to get Wildflower, the first new Avalanches record in 16 years. It’s a music business truism that every sample-heavy instrumental act will eventually work with guest vocalists.

Wildflower (The Avalanches album) has been listed as one of the Music good articles under the good article criteria. If you would like to participate, visit the project page.

Indeed, The Avalanches’ second album became the Aussie exemplar of indulgent procrastination, rivalling Dr Dre’s Detox – a snarky joke. Surely clearing obscure samples doesn’t take that long. Still, there was sufficient eccentric activity to keep The Dream alive. Wildflower feels assembled. Even production tricks are repeated – The Avalanches big on the old EQ and pitched-altered vocals. And Wildflower is out of sync in another way with its latent cultural cringe. Apart from Dirty Three’s Warren Ellis on Stepkids (with Royal Trux’s Jennifer Herrema), most of the guests, and vocalists, on Wildflower are American at a time when, as The Avalanches themselves precipitated, the Australian music scene has boomed. Frank Ocean is clamouring to work with Tame Impala! The irony?

Is Wildflower the best album of the year? Probably not. But it was made by one of the most influential artists of our generation. To The Avalanches’ many devotees, the alternately wacky and wallpaper nature of these 60 minutes probably won’t matter, and neither will the group’s failure to evolve. Yet for those of us not seduced by absence, fond hearts or nostalgia, ‘Wildflower’ is a faded snapshot of a cosier, very distant-seeming past.

Fantastic album. I hear new sounds and little golden nuggets every time I listen to this album. One of the albums of the decade in my opinion.
this definitely has pressing flaws like scuffing that causes random surface noise but nothing that ruins the listening experience overall pressing still sounds very decent.
lets face it. its not a great lp really is it.
I think this is a bad take. 2.5 years later and I am still consistently listening to this album, arguably as much as I listen to Since I Left You. To me, this was one of those unicorn moments of a band actually living up to the hype of a long-rumored follow-up album.
While it was a bit pricy for not really being anything special packaging-wise (not 180g either), the sound quality is excellent.
I'm looking to trade this record, slight tear on spine from shipping, anyone have anything they want to offload and offer?
Between my friends and I, we received 3 copies of this pressing. While the packaging was nothing special, none of our copies arrived damage in any sense - corners were all crisp and the inner sleeves had no tears from the records shifting around during shifting. Great pressing! I personally like the cover art more than the others.
errrrrrrr seeing as everyone seems to be more interested in the pressings and not the music may I mention that this is the perfect floaty follow up the Since... great use of samples and is instantly recognisable as Avalanches.ps I got the Wildflower ‎(2xLP, Album, Dlx, 180 + CD, Album) version and gave it a run through a RCM and its clear as a file.
I have the avalanches promo flag it's rare and only comes with the deluxe edition not sure how many are out there
Actual full size flag? Didn't realize any of the vinyl came with flags.
Can anyone confirm what file format the download card lets you download?I want both digital and vinyl versions, but will only download wav or flac (even better if they're 24/96k or upwards).I'd rather buy the LP+CD version and rip 16/44.1k than download mp3s.(notwithstanding that the LP+CD version is only £25 + shipping vs $63 at JB Hifi)
Beautiful pressing, great sound and lovely package. Great album, well worth getting.
the Australian released vinyl of this album are perfect, no pops etc, crisp clean sounds coming out of my Kef's.. Gatefold release i always swap out the paper inserts for plastic inner sleeves. just have to buy the antistatic kind.Enjoy
I just noticed that my copy has two B-side labels on the first vinyl. Side C and D has correct labels, and the pressing is correct otherwise. Has anyone else got the same error?
Only the Australian release comes with 5 patches... I'm kinda disappointed that I would have to spend $30+ more just to get that version...
Avoid this pressing! Many returns due to pressing plant issues including deep squiggly marks that cause popping. Get the 8 panel deluxe version or the vinyl me please red version. This version is very poor.
This is a beautiful album. Really clean and great sounding pressing.
Did i hear a Rickie Lee Jones sample on 1 of the tracks?
I got the usual little flakes of paper on the vinyl that come from paper inner sleeves, but I blew them off, and both discs played fine. I too was disappointed with no gatefold and no download card, but the LPs really do sound great. Listening to it on vinyl, broken up over four sides, has made me like it quite a bit more than the initial listens on Apple Music. I was ready to chalk this album up as a huge disappointment, but I like it a lot better now. I'll never like it as much as Since I Left You, but it's really pretty good. I digress a bit, but my main point is my copy plays and sounds fine. There may be some bad copies in the bunch, but mine's A-OK.
Received my copy in the US from Recordstore.co.UK today. I always buy my imports from them and I've never been disappointed. It arrived perfectly packed (as usual from this vendor). I ordered the deluxe 8 panel gatefold edition XLLP755X. Mine came with the CD and stickers as well as cloth patches! An anomaly? I'm thrilled with the entire set and the vinyl is flawless - rich, full spectrum sound with no distortion. I don't know what extras you will find inside if you order this edition but based on other reviews of the US and red pressings, this is definitely the one to buy if you want superior quality.
I must be lucky, my copy sounds pretty good on my Thorens. Not great, certainly, but no skips and few pops here and there. A little warp but it's very slight. Not off center. Some distortion from time to time, but overall I'd say 4/5 quality on my copy.
Placing the focus on the music rather than the pressing issues I have to say I am really enjoying this album. It could never have been as groundbreaking as the first (time, technology and ideas move fast) but that aside there is a real joyous, psyched out musichall vibe running throughout this LP. For me this is a great example of listening to the album rather than individual tracks. As a single Frank Sinatra didn't really do much for me, however listening to it again as a part of the album I get it and am hearing something very different and enjoyable. This album has the sense of a Rotary Connection for the 21st Century and surely that can only be a positive.
The packaging from Newbury was frankly too thin. There was no cushion for the record in the box. I'm pretty sure a good percentage of these have damage, ranging from crushed corners to full-on dents. If you're gonna do a special edition, why not ship it so that it arrives intact? Secondly, there's no CD. Why do all the copies of this on vinyl except for the "limited edition" ones not come with a CD? With a price tag of $27 (IIRC), you'd think they'd include a CD like all the other copies. Seriously. Not even a download code. Lastly, why the hell isn't this a gatefold album? Generally when you have a double album, you use a gatefold. Not worth it IMO. Just get the regular edition, which I assure you will arrive with less damage and even have a CD.
None of the US versions came with a CD or download code.
awful quality pressing. Disc 1 is chipped and pressed wayyy off center. The lead in almost is non existent. Shame on you Modular.First and last record I buy from you.
The stickers were a bonus thing given out in indie stores, either for those purchasing the album in any format, or those that pre-ordered them/ attended an album listening party a week before release. My store gave out free t-shirts too with their tour dates on the back!
Pretty shit quality control. Got a piece of vinyl hanging off the edge of disc one that causes a huge skip. Oodles of popping. Still don't know why the US was shortchanged with the deluxe edition.
here here. this is an embarrassing attempt to push a product without even noticing that it was pressed off center. pretty sure they had the mentality of "woops... ship it".
I have a Deluxe Edition, 180g, but without CD. Barcode: 634904075507XL Recordings
Yeah, no download card. Also on side 1 right now and a lot of pops and skips, fresh out of the plastic and first play. I'm so pissed.
Sounds good from my initial listen, but super disappointed in the quality of sleeve. Thin and cheap standard sleve, and the inserts are already breaking at the seams. Would've sought a deluxe gatefold from Europe if I knew the US version was gonna be so poor.
I have this edition but without the stickers and strangely only 1 disc is 180G.... ordered from Juno records.
yes my second disc is the 180G one as well.
Same as mine, only the second disc is 180g. Weird... Mine was sealed from HMV.
Mine came sealed from HMV and didn't have stickers, just a CD and poster. Both discs 180G.
Have any actual sold for the current list prices? There are 2,000 out there so I can't imagine this actually fetching more than $30?
God i'm tired of "rare" "limited" colored pressings flooding the record market these days. Super great album though!
I hear that. Once things started getting marketed as such they become meaningless, see: Beanie baby's, modern baseball cards. Rare is usually rare because everyone except a select few threw the item in the garbage.
Sounding flawless. Powerful clean sounding pressing. Hope that helps people choose.
100% not worth over $100 dollars. Disappointed in everyone selling.
16 years in the making and finally saved from development hell (probably because of clearing the Beatles samples featured on it) - Is the new Avalanches LP worth it? The answer is - Yes, It's really good. While their debut "Since I Left You" is such a tough act to follow, the very much long-awaited second album is still really worth getting. While the formula from the first album has been mostly kept (except with some guest spots from alternative hip-hop legends Biz Markie, MF Doom and Danny Brown and more), this isn't a bad thing as imagine if the Avalanches changed their style to polkacore or burpstep - there would be such an uproar! While the first instalment clearly wins, the second one is still highly recommended. 8/10
There are 2000 of these but only 1000 of the Newsbury Comics.
Yeah, but the Newbury Comics version is just a different cover, which really isn't any different. Just the same cover in a box.
I did hear that 3000 got pressed of the 4 gatefold edition. (I think)
Any idea how many of the x4 gatefold deluxe version have been pressed?
There's also a 'non deluxe' edition with a 'normal' sleeve. Has the printed inners. Mine also has a CD copy included
just noticed this one listed... ignore me while I wibble away....
No mp3 download card with my copy. Anyone else in the same boat?
Same here. No download card in my copy, which I ordered from Amazon (US). Also sadly no AutoRip from Amazon either.
I don't think one was intended to be included with this release, no mention on the hype sticker or anything.
Very basic non-gatefold package, but has 3 of the gatefold panel images from the deluxe edition printed on picture sleeves, with the remaining panel containing credits.Pretty excellent sounding pressing, "MASTERED BY CAPITOL" stamp in deadwax. My side 4 has some odd scratches on the label but the play area is fine, thank lord.
