Hole's second release, Live Through This (1994), was met with critical accolades and multi-platinum sales. In 1995, Love returned to acting, earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance as Althea Leasure in Miloš Forman's The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), which established her as a mainstream actress. The following year, Hole's third album, Celebrity Skin (1998), was nominated for three Grammy Awards. Love continued to work as an actress into the early 2000s, appearing in big-budget pictures such as Man on the Moon (1999) and Trapped (2002), before releasing her.

King, ‘Live in Cook County Jail’. King was enjoying a career renaissance when he played this Chicago jail in 1970. The third album by Jack and Meg White was the right dynamite for a mainstream breakthrough. Jack’s Delta-roadhouse fantasies, Detroit-garage-rock razzle and busted-love lyricism, as well as Meg’s toy-thunder drumming all peaked at once. By their fifth album, Kiss were the most popular band in America, with sold-out stadium tours and eventually their own pinball machine, makeup line and a TV movie. Built around the proto power ballad Beth, this is a ridiculously over-the-top party-rock album that just gets better with age. Listen here.

Their second album, Live Through This, released 1994 by DGC Records, which featured less aggressive melodies and more restrained lyrical content, was widely acclaimed and reached platinum status within a year of its release. Their third album, Celebrity Skin (1998), marked a notable departure from their earlier punk influences, boasting a more commercially viable sound; the album sold around 2 million copies worldwide, and earned them significant critical acclaim. They disbanded in 2002, and the members individually pursued other projects

Live Through This is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Hole. It was released by DGC Records on April 12, 1994, just one week after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, died in their home. It was Hole's only album to feature bassist Kristen Pfaff before her death in June 1994. Recorded in October 1993, the album marked a divergence from the band's unpolished hardcore aesthetics to more refined melodies and song structure, and features production by Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie, with mixing by Scott Litt and J Mascis.

Live Through This is one of the best rock albums of the ’90s, full stop. Released at the height of the grunge boom, it mixes punk ferocity with catchy jangle-pop, and contains some of the most potent feminist lyrics to ever find their way onto the radio. Miss World" smuggles its confrontational lines within easy-to-digest hooks, while the monster choruses and dynamics of "Violet" and "Doll Parts" established Courtney Love as a songwriting force to be reckoned with, drama be damned. It's nearly thirteen years since Hole released Live Through This, their second album. It was their breakthrough into the major league, and proved to be the best of their career. But with Kurt Cobain's death coming just days before the album’s release, none of this mattered. Violet gives the album a venomous jumpstart, with Love picking up more or less where she left off on Hole's 2001 debut Pretty On The Inside, wailing pure vitriol. However, there was a newfound sweetness to the music and mixing that Hole hadn’t shown before. The quiet-loud grunge dynamic was Nevermind through and through - the verses swimming in chorus pedals, the choruses raging with bile and fuzz (Miss World is particularly formulaic here). Hole v. sounded like a different animal. The predominantly acoustic strummer, Softer, Softest must have come as a shock to any hardcore followers,.
