The present day Pachuco refuses to die! RUBEN SANO, June 1955. Liner Notes & Original Art Direction by FZ, NT&B.
Ruben and the Jets was an American, Los Angeles-based rock band, active between 1972 and 1974. Led by Ruben Guevara, band members included, Ruben and the Jets released two albums, the first of which was produced by Frank Zappa, whose band The Mothers of Invention had previously released an album titled Cruising with Ruben & the Jets, for which Guevera had named his band.

Not necessarily the finest Mothers album ever - Ruben and the Jets still does a fine job of bringing some Doo-Wop inspired Zappa tunes to life. I subtracted one star because this is NOT the "original" vinyl mix - but the remixed version Frank tinkered with years later, and I (like many) feel some of the charm was lost with the tinkering. According to various reports Zappa had the percussion and bass parts rerecorded for Reuben and the Jets in the 1980's. The bass is definitely more prominent in the mix, but I can't say it's a good thing. As a bass player the bass tone does not feel appropriate to style or era of the music, the general feel of the rhythm section is lacking (like they never played together and this was a forced venture), and some of the mixing and mastering just ruin the original compositions.
Frank Zappa created the fictional band. the band consisted of a bunch of teenagers that an old man (Uncle Meat) turned into "dog snout" people under the lead of singer Ruben Sano. The album itself belongs to the "No Commercial Potential" project. The other albums that belong to that project are "We're Only in it For the Money", the revised version of "Lumpy Gravy" and "Uncle Meat". Strangely enough, a 2nd and a third Ruben and the Jets album was recorded by an actual band by the same name. The first album name was "For Real" and it was produced by none other than Frank Zappa. Summary: EXTREME differences between CD and vinyl versions. Zappa remixed and overdubbed it so much for the CD release that it's like a whole new album, from the '80s instead of the '60s.
Cruising with Ruben & the Jets is the fourth studio album by the Mothers of Invention. Released on December 2, 1968, on Bizarre and Verve Records with distribution by MGM Records, it was subsequently remixed by Frank Zappa and reissued independently. As with the band’s previous three albums, it is a concept album, influenced by 1950s doo wop and rock and roll.
Produced by Frank Zappa. Album Cruising with Ruben & The Jets. How Could I Be Such A Fool Lyrics. When I won your love, I was very glad Every happiness in the world belonged to me Then our love was lost and you went away Now I shed my tears in lonely misery. But there will come a time and you'll regret the way You treated me as if I was a fool and didn't know The many times you lied about your love for me Someone else is gonna know that your love was just a show. How could I be such a fool? More on Genius. How Could I Be Such A Fool " Track Info. Written By Frank Zappa.
The album is fashioned as a simultaneous parody of and tribute to the doo-wop music Frank and many of the Mothers grew up with and worked on. The album has been described as a collision of high and low art, with Stravinsky-style chord changes and unusual tempos applied to purposely trite and banal teenage pop love songs. The backing vocals at the end of "Fountain of Love" sing the opening melody from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The album predated a mini-revival of 1950's rock music styles and touched off the Rock and roll revival movement
